Profile Information

About Me:
I've been reading comics since I was four years old, and have remained a lifelong comics fan except for the decade 1982-1992, and 1994-1997, when I dropped out for a while, due to Real Life getting too heavy, and because commercial comics throughout most of that time were complete crap..

I've always been interested in the concept and philosophy of Small Press and self-publishing as opposed to commercial comics. I (and a small group of like-minded friends) created our own superhero and sci-fi comics when we were kids (over the years 1974-1980), but we stopped when we lost contact due to moving home.

I haven't drawn a picture in anger for thirty years, and my drawing skills have atrophied to the point where I'd find it difficult to draw even matchstick men. But my writing skills have improved immensely, and I've always fancied writing scripts for my own comics, if I could find an artist willing to collaborate with me (and put up with me)..

And I'm STILL fascinated by the concept of small press and self-publishing...

2012 in Review: M. P. Fikaris

What have been your personal cartooning/comics highlights of 2012? Starting up a little store room in my studio and printing up a new periodical DAILIES while pushing through my inhibitions of medium and painting some comics.

Christopher Downes 2012 in review

What have been your personal cartooning/comics highlights of 2012? I went to the Australian Cartoonists Association's Stanley Awards weekend for the very first time. I had to crowd fund in order to get there, but it was really fun. I got to meet a lot of heroes of mine and they turned out to be genuinely nice people.

2012 in Review: Tim Danko

What have been your personal cartooning/comics highlights of 2012? Continuing confidence in my work and processes, it is the gift that keeps on giving.
